"Hung..dupa mengalun, buka takbir purbakala, Riwayat parahyangan, ibu nan menanggung malang.."
Its a legend behind the creations of mount Tangkuban Perahu. The most famous mountain in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.
Sangkuriang was a son of human and animal. His mother is a princess and his father is a dog. Of course not an ordinary dog, he was a human once before cursed by god for his misbehave.
The princess, name Dayang Sumbi, stay in high rise house. She loves weaving. One day,
her weaving tool fall on the ground and she is too lazy to come down to pick it up. Then she promise herself if there's anybody pick the tool for her, if women she will make her as sister, and if man, she will marry him.
God granted her wish. Not a women or man, but ... a male dog who retrieves her tool. Like or dislike, she has to keep her promise to marry him. And several months later, she gives birth to a son. Then, she named him Sangkuriang.
Sangkuriang like hunting very much. Everytime he went, the dog ~ they call it Tumang ~ always company him. One day, they both go for hunting. Some problem arise between them and accidently Sangkuriang kill the dog without knowing that it is his father. His mother so angry, she hit him on his head until bleeding. Think that his mother love the dog more than him, furious Sangkuriang decide to leave her and go away.
Time goes by. Sangkuriang spent his time by traveling all around the world. One day, he meet a lady in the forest and falls in love with her. But as fate would have it, the lady actualy is her mother, Dayang Sumbi. Apparently, god granted her an eternal youth. Dayang Sumbi knows that Sangkuriang is her son from the wound on his head. She told him that they both actually mother and son and it is imposible for them to get marry. Sangkuriang doesn't believe. He force her to marry him.
Doesn't know what she should do, Dayang Sumbi tell her son that she will marry him if he can build a lake and a boat in one night.
Sangkuriang goes all out to make the imposible be posible. He is about to complete his task when his mother prays for divine help to stop the marriage from taking place. Her prayers are answered. The furious Sangkuriang kick the bout and accidently fell down from the mountain and dies. Dayang Sumbi in sadness drown herself in the lake. The End.

The over turned boat by time growing and be a Tangkuban Perahu mountain. So if there is Tangkuban Perahu there will be Sangkuriang legend.
