The word 'Moon' derives ultimately from and Indo-Europeans root shared by Latin mensis and Greek men, which both meaning 'Month'. This root is the source of English words such as Mentruate (mentrual cycle being roughly one lunar month).

Moon, the natural satellite of the earth, orbiting it every twenty-eight days and shining by reflected light from the sun. Natural satellite of any planet also called moon.
